Artist's Comments

Okay, so does anyone here remember when I promised to draw ~silvermoonlight55555 a picture upon winning a little contest I threw together last year?

Well, neither do I, but apparently I did.

So here it is. Now, since Rosie asked me simply for "a dragon picture," I tried to come up with something that she in particular would really appreciate. I think Rosie, ~ dragonfire0024 and ~Guitarsinger will be the only ones to recognize the title and pose. As for the rest of you, I ask you to forgive the in-joke and just enjoy the drawing.

This is actually the product of more forethought and practice than most of my little scribbles. Upon realizing that I didn't really know how to draw dragons, I decided to teach myself by copying pictures of dragons from a book (the D&D Monster Manual, if you really must know). Eventually, I figured I was ready to try drawing my own dragons without a reference, which I did for a while until I hit upon the idea for Dragon with Tail with Motor. The result is--I hope--something that looks good without being too derivative in style. At least I can say with certainty that the pose is like nothing I've ever seen before. ^^

There is some more I'd like to say about this one, but I think I'll just shut up now and wait to see what all of you think. As per usual, I would really appreciate any comments, especially constructive criticism. Enjoy!

(PS: If you tilt your head just so, you'll notice that this drawing is the source of my shiny new avatar. Hurrah!)

Oooh! This is very, very good! Great anatomy in this!

WHAT ARE BIRDS?

NOBODY REALLY KNOWS.

THESE ARE QUESTIONS THAT SCIENCE CAN HELP US ANSWER.

Why, thank you! As far as the anatomy, I have to confess that it was a combination of extrapolating from my reference pictures and telling myself, "If you add enough muscles, eventually it'll look like you know what you're doing." ^^;

I'm still a little uncertain about the muscles at the base of the wing, but the nice thing is that since no four-legged, winged creatures actually exist, I can't technically get it "wrong." :P

It looks EXACTALLY like cat with tail with motor...only with two tailes. I am thrilled to say the least!!!
*giggles at the in-joke!!*

Yoga position? I don't know much about yoga, but that's what the title would lead me to believe. Either way, NICELY DONE. Freaking amazing. Despite your insecurity on the wing's muscles, I'd say you did a great job with them. And you know what? You're right. You can't get it wrong.

Wow, awesome pic! The poze is quite striking, and I'm sure it was tough drawing that dragon into a perfect circle like that! The back legs look a tad stubby, though it seems to work with the way the pose should look. They're definately shorter than the front legs, but given the pose I wouldn't make them too much longer anyway. Great job, though! +faving!

What if no one ever asked "What if?"
:iconrandomscribe:
Hurrah! Of course, now I'm going to think of this picture every time we have movement class... :P
:iconrandomscribe:
Thanks for the comment and the fave! ^^ Yeah, getting the pose to work right was a bit of a toughie, partly because all of the dragon illustrations in the Monster Manual seem to feature the same standard "taking a step forward" pose. Which is great for highlighting the differences between the different dragon types, but the lack of a different pose or angle made it a bit harder to envision how everything fits together in 3D.

Of course, the obvious solution would be to look for other references, but... I'm lazy. :P And besides, the MM is probably my best bet for finding maximally "generic" dragons. ^^

I actually drew the original circle freehand and built the pose around it, tweaking as necessary. This was one drawing where having a clear idea of what I wanted the finished product to look like was really helpful. ^^

uhhuh me too... *giggles*
