Sometimes someone says an unusual phrase that would be a good name for a band. At some point in 2005 I decided to start keeping a list of such names. Consider it my tribute to Dave Barry.

I'll be adding more names as I discover them, as well as accepting suggestions from all of you. Bear in mind, however, that the best band names are things that you happen to hear or say by chance. Don't sit down and try to think of names--the best ones have a story behind them.

I've noticed that whenever I quit out of AOL Instant Messenger these days, I get an error message saying, "The application has unexpectedly terminated. We apologize for the inconvenience." Should I be concerned that the last thing my computer expects me to do is quit out of AIM of my own free will?

Time for an art update. The only thing currently in progress is my sketch of Salgrus, which I'm currently trying to trace and color in Illustrator. Yeah, I know... look, at some point I'll draw a character who isn't Salgrus. I promise. For instance, I still need to draw that dragon for ~silvermoonlight55555. Soon, I promise. After that, since I recently introduced my character Kuna from Avistasis (~amberfoxwing knows whom I'm talking about) on an RP board elsewhere, I should probably post a drawing of her here.

And after that... well, I'd really like to get started on one of my comic ideas. But which one? Well, my idea was to draw the first few strips of each one--sort of a "pilot episode," if you will. That way, I can find out A) which of my comics are the most fun to actually draw and B) which ones people like the most. I've already done this with my series about Scotthew and Alacrity, which I'm tentatively calling omgwtflol.

And now, because my need to share my cleverness with the world can't wait that long, and because it didn't seem worthy of an actual deviation submission, I give you...

Ten Sad Truths of Gaming

1. The only one who wants to hear stories about your character... is you.
2. It is physically, temporally, and philosophically impossible for five or more people to find a time when they can all reliably show up at a gaming session every week.
3. If you game long enough, this will stop being true, because you will have no life.
4. You will roll your eyes at old-timers who complain that older editions were better and that the new ones are a ploy to get more of gamers’ money, right up until the moment they release a new edition of a game you’re currently playing, at which point you will become one of them. You will still go out and buy all of the updated materials anyway, you worthless corporate whore, you.
5. Each additional supplement you buy only decreases the chance that you will actually use any given rule in any one of them.
6. If you hold enough gaming sessions at your house, then at a certain point your mother will stop offering to make cookies for you and your friends and start asking when you’ll move out of the basement.
7. I lied in the previous sad truth. You have no friends.
8. You will always run out of snacks. Always.
9. Your DM is a spiteful, bitter person with an unfulfilling personal life. So are you, actually, but the difference is that he’s the one with the power to take out his anger on you in-game.
10. You might think that my use of “he” in the previous sad truth is politically incorrect, but I actually used it because your DM is, and always will be, male.

...oh, you think I'm kidding, do you?

Aaargh!

Well, this is sort of annoying. Okay, people who have been following my dA site for a while might remember that for some time now I've been working (occasionally) on a comic in the form of a documentary about a bunch of washed-up fantasy adventurers (a la "This is Spinal Tap"). However, I've learned that there's a new TV show premiering tonight, Drawn Together, with a very similar premise: a "reality show" about what are basically stock characters from different genres of animation. Okay, it's not exactly the same, but now I worry that if I ever do start And Cut!, everyone will assume that I'm ripping off Comedy Central's idea. Ah well.

Still, I'll probably end up watching the show, because it looks like it just might be funny. The overall concept is a real winner, at any rate. Everything depends on execution, as they say.

Oh, and there is a fantasy-RPG-type-character on Drawn Together, but he's, well, nothing like any of the characters in my comic. So at least I'm acquitted of precognitive plagiarism on that count.

(I'm plagiarizing the term "precognitive plagiarism," by the way, from Arthur C. Clarke, who worried that people would assume that he stole the ending of 3001 from the movie "Independence Day.")

And It's Walky! is over. How sad.

I did it. I looked at every single deviation in my inbox. There were over 200 at one point, but I did it. All of them checked off forever. I'm... free.

Hi ho, the glamorous life.

Well, I'm back, and here I'll stay for the foreseeable future. However, I find myself suddenly swamped with... well, everything. Don't worry--it's not enough to seriously stress me out, but I am going to need to spend some more time putting out fires before I can get back into the art groove. *sighs* Best of luck for the year to all of you who are starting school or college again this fall! ^^ *dashes off*
